What We Do

The question that many participants have at the conclusion of work that falls into traditional “DEI” experience buckets is But what do I do? We believe the answer to that question is Equity-Centered Design. equityXdesign (eXd) merges traditional design methodologies with an equity consciousness, and was developed specifically as a way to help individuals take concrete steps towards manifesting their commitment to equity. With our prioritization on process, and in building individual and organizational capacity, our learning experiences are designed to provide a series of highly structured and facilitated design cycles initially, followed by thought-partnership, coaching and support as needed in later design cycles as we work to help folks apply equity-centered design principles and processes to their day to day work.

Learning By Doing

Design Cycles

We believe equity is a verb, and, as such, equitable thinking and acting can (and should be) taught and practiced. We contextualize this learning/practicing by guiding folks to work on your organization’s specific timely and relevant equity issues, which are surfaced, agreed upon, and targeted during periods of work called “design cycles.” This methodology changes both the structure and the day-to-day work of the organization while simultaneously building capacity in individuals to make different design decisions and forge relationships that are more equitable.
