For organizations and teams looking to build the capacity of their staff to take action on their equity values.
At the core of our work is the belief that history is a series of design decisions made by people, and so those things can be (re)designed to be more equitable. Equity is a verb, and so we believe it is incredibly important to build capacity in individuals to make different design decisions -- to teach, encourage, and give them the space to design for equity.
Folks will learn and practice by working on organizational issues that are surfaced and decided upon inside our process. You will get support from us with resources, coaching, and accountability the whole way through, ultimately emerging with a set of shared experiences and vocabulary out of which to define and practice new ways of working and being.
Conferences present both a unique opportunity logistically and culturally -- oftentimes in these cases, teams are in the rare position of being physically together, and these moments create both the time and headspace for participants to learn about and be open to new ways of thinking and working. So far, we have had lots of opportunities to build shorter sessions into existing agendas, and to create immersive, safe, and transformative eXd experiences tailored to the organization’s/conference’s specific context. Not to #humblebrag, but our clients regularly report that these sessions are the highlights of their conferences, and many of their staff members independently go on to read our white paper, sign-up for our free online class, and/or reach out to us personally -- so it’s also a great way to plant seeds for future eXd leaders and champions within your org.
For organizations and teams that are a little bit more familiar with equity and design, we offer more focused skill-building workshops designed to boost their capacities in specific aspects of the eXd process. As per usual, we tailor these workshops to the organization and team’s specific contexts, and, as always, we use these experiences to continually shift people’s mindsets towards seeing themselves as equityXdesigners, and to build greater trust between people in the org. These workshops tend to be more work-heavy and result in specific outputs, helping to tangibly and perceptibly move teams and organizations further along in their equity journey while also significantly moving the work forward.
